Right to Repair

April 23, 2026 @ 7pm on Zoom

Sewing machines are becoming harder to service, with fewer repair shops, restricted access to parts and information, and a growing trend toward replacement instead of repair. What does that mean for you and your machines?

This presentation will focus on the Right to Repair movement and how it is shaping the future of sewing. We will explore what Right to Repair is, why it matters in the sewing machine industry, and how these changes affect everyday sewists.

We will also talk about the bigger picture, including how repair keeps machines out of landfills, supports local communities, and helps preserve skills that are quickly disappearing.

Andi Barney and the Sewing Doc Academy - Sewing Doc Academy is one of the only online training programs dedicated to sewing machine repair, maintenance, and restoration. Whether you're caring for your own machine or dreaming of a repair side hustle, our beginner-friendly courses give you lifetime access, expert guidance, and a welcoming community of fellow machine geeks.

Our curriculum is based on real-world techniques from founder Andi Barney’s professional service shop — not textbook fluff or outdated dealer advice. From cleaning and lubrication to rewiring and restoration, we teach you the exact steps to bring tired machines back to life.
